the flu

i got a flu shot last fall (for the first time). it hasn't seemed to do me much good as i've spent the last week sick with the flu. the sucky part is that getting the flu (or any other respiratory illness) triggers my asthma, making me feel that much more miserable. plus, every time i get sick, it always lasts for at least a week. thankfully it hasn't turned into bronchitis, as it often does. and thankfully, it's already been a week, so i should be getting better soon.

since getting sick always puts me out of commission for at least a week, i usually end up depressed afterwards. last night i took my last dose of my mood stabilizer. so far, my mood seems okay. i mean, i've been grumpy and difficult, but i don't seem to be getting depressed.

so even though the flu sucks, i seem to be doing alright. though i still find myself treading warily, never really trusting my mood to last.

the crappy thing about the flu shot is that it only contains strains of the various "flu bugs" that the CDC deems most probable for any given season. in other words, you're not covered for every bug out there, just a few. :-(

sorry to hear you got one of the bugs that wasn't included this year--it's not fun. if your asthma starts to get really bad, you might want to see your PCP for a dose of tamiflu or equivalent anti-viral that might help your body recover more quickly. since you need oxygen, i think it would help!

i'll keep my fingers crossed re: the mood stabilizers.

feel better! :-)
